A local newspaper reports the last days of Brome Primary School before it closed its doors and pupils transferred to Eye in 1969. Two years later and after a great deal of work by the village the building became the village hall.
The earliest photo of the village school, probably from the 1930s. Note the unmade road. Some of the railings still survive. The house on the left is known as School House.
The old Village Hall until 1971 comprised a makeshift shed made up of two scrap railway carriages roofed over. It was on the corner of Buck Lane and The Street, Brome, where Buck Lane House now stands.
